BREAKING; NFL Mock Draft Shocker: Giants Take Top Defender Over Shedeur Sanders — Then Swing Wild Trade for Questionable QB!

One of the biggest storylines heading into the 2025 NFL Draft is how the New York Giants will utilize the No. 3 overall pick. With a glaring need at quarterback entering the offseason, many speculated that Colorado star Shedeur Sanders could be headed to New York. Sanders (6’1.5″, 212 lbs) was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in his senior season after leading the nation in completion percentage (74%) and ranking fourth in passing yards (4,134) and second in touchdowns (37).

However, the Giants’ free-agent signings of veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston suggest they might go in a different direction at No. 3, especially given some concerns about how Sanders’ game will translate to the NFL.

In his latest mock draft, NFL.com’s Eric Edholm projects the Giants to pass on Sanders and instead take the best player available — selecting standout Penn State EDGE rusher Abdul Carter, who had a dominant junior season and earned unanimous All-American honors. Then, in a bold move, Edholm has the Giants trading back into the first round to target a developmental quarterback.

That quarterback? Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, taken at No. 24 after a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. According to the projection, New York parts with picks No. 34, 99, and 105 to move up. Milroe would be the third quarterback selected, behind Sanders (No. 9 to the Saints) and Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart (No. 21 to the Steelers).

“With Jaxson Dart off the board, the Giants can’t hesitate to move up for a QB if they want one,” Edholm wrote. “Milroe makes sense for New York, even if he’s a dice roll.”

Milroe (6’2″, 217 lbs) is one of the most dynamic athletes in this draft class, known for his electric running ability. Over the past two seasons, he racked up 32 rushing touchdowns and broke Alabama’s quarterback rushing TD record with 20 in his senior year. His passing numbers dipped in 2024 amid the coaching change from Nick Saban to Kalen DeBoer — completing 64.3% of his throws for 2,844 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. In 2023, he had a more efficient year with 2,834 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just six picks.

While Sanders might be the more refined passer, Milroe could develop behind veterans Wilson and Winston, allowing the Giants to land a top-tier defender in Carter while also securing a high-upside quarterback.

Still, a major question remains: how much is New York willing to give up in a trade like this? With only four picks in this draft, Minnesota might be motivated to make a deal. The 2025 NFL Draft will be held from Thursday to Saturday in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
