Braves Turn Back the Clock Again, Re-Sign Eddie Rosario Amid Outfield Struggles
The Atlanta Braves’ unofficial reunion tour rolls on. In a series of roster moves, the team brought back another familiar face from their 2021 World Series run — veteran outfielder Eddie Rosario, who has signed a major league deal after electing free agency when he declined an outright assignment from the Dodgers.
This move comes as Atlanta continues to search for answers in the outfield, where production has been severely lacking. Braves outfielders have collectively posted a -0.6 fWAR so far this season. While Rosario brings championship pedigree and fan-favorite status, expectations should be tempered — he’s coming off a rough 2024 campaign in which he hit just .175/.215/.316 with 10 homers and a 45 wRC+. He only appeared in two games for the Dodgers this season, both as a DH.
Meanwhile, Jarred Kelenic has been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett after continuing to struggle at the plate. In 65 plate appearances, Kelenic hit just .167/.231/.300 with two home runs and a 48 wRC+. After an underwhelming 2024 season (86 wRC+, 0.5 fWAR), the Braves hoped he’d rebound — but so far, it hasn’t panned out. He’ll now try to reset and rebuild in the minors.
Other roster shuffles:
- Davis Daniel was optioned back to Gwinnett after a scoreless inning in his Braves debut on Sunday against Arizona.
- Zach Thompson was designated for assignment after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings across two appearances earlier this season.
As the Braves try to patch together consistency on the fringes of the roster, familiar names like Ian Anderson, Eddie Rosario, and maybe even more World Series alumni continue to cycle back through. In Atlanta, if you’ve ever proven you can contribute — the door is always open.
