BREAKING; Yankees Could Exploit Red Sox Panic in Blockbuster Trade After Triston Casas Injury Shake-Up

Yankees fans are usually wary of making deals with the Red Sox, especially after seeing players like Richard Fitts and Carlos Narvaez thrive in Boston, and former Yankees like Rob Refsnyder, Garrett Whitlock, and even Aroldis Chapman make an impact for the rival club. Add in the Alex Verdugo saga, and there’s usually little appetite for trading with the enemy.

But things might be different this time. On Friday night, the Red Sox likely lost first baseman Triston Casas for the season after he suffered a knee injury colliding with Ty France while running to first. Though there’s no official word yet, the early signs aren’t promising.

Enter the Yankees. Red Sox fans quickly took to social media to ask about Dom Smith, who played for Boston in 2024 and filled in admirably when Casas was hurt, batting .237 with a .706 OPS across 84 games. He was DFA’d late last season and floated in free agency before signing with the Yankees this past January. He had a solid spring but didn’t make the roster due to Paul Goldschmidt’s presence and Ben Rice’s emergence. Smith is now in Triple-A Scranton, hitting just .202 with a .561 OPS.

Despite his struggles, Boston might view Smith as a dependable stopgap. With Romy Gonzalez currently penciled in at first and defensive trade-offs looming with players like Connor Wong or Refsnyder potentially being shifted, the Yankees could use Boston’s desperation to their advantage.

The Yankees need pitching, and if the Red Sox are serious about bringing Smith back, a trade involving a depth arm might be in play. It’s far from guaranteed, but with Boston’s recent questionable decisions, a move like this isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
