If there’s one position the New York Giants failed to address in the 2025 NFL Draft, it’s wide receiver. While Malik Nabers is a promising star, the starting receivers, Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton, are average at best. This combination is good enough to support rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, but it’s far from elite. Behind them, the depth chart looks even weaker.
Receivers like Jalin Hyatt, Zach Pascal, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, and Ihmir Smith-Marsette don’t instill much confidence. Hyatt, the Giants’ 2023 third-round pick, could be on his way out, especially with Slayton’s return, making his future in New York uncertain. A disappointing 2024 season could seal his fate, but there’s still a reason to believe Hyatt could break out in Year 3: the quarterbacks now leading the room.
Improved quarterback play could elevate the entire receiving corps. Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston are both clear upgrades over Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and the quarterbacks from last season. Both veterans are known for their deep-ball prowess, which could play right into Hyatt’s strengths. Winston averaged a target depth of over nine yards in 2024, and Wilson’s “moonballs” helped keep the Steelers’ offense competitive.
Hyatt may not be a complete receiver and was never drafted to be one, but he excels as a deep threat with the ability to flip the field in one play. Despite struggling in his second season with just eight catches for 62 yards, Hyatt’s speed could finally be put to use as a rotational deep threat. This role aligns with head coach Brian Daboll’s vision of an aggressive passing attack, which could provide Hyatt the opportunity to thrive. His ability to make the most of this chance will be key to his future with the Giants.
