The Minnesota Vikings could still be in the mix for a major offseason move as they look to solidify their roster after several key departures. The team let go of three of its five starting defensive backs in free agency and is set to replace them with a largely unproven group. Despite these needs, the Vikings used their first-round draft pick to bolster the offensive line, selecting Ohio State guard Donovan Jackson.
With holes still evident in the secondary, Minnesota might consider a trade for star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who has mutually agreed with the Miami Dolphins to explore separation. Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro, turns 31 this season and carries a hefty $72 million contract that runs through 2028 — including a sizable cap increase in 2026.
Because of his age and contract, Miami likely won’t get a top-tier draft pick in return. Minnesota could make a move with a Day 2 selection, potentially offering their original third-round pick — which would be higher than the projected compensatory pick they expect to receive in 2026 for losing Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones in free agency.
The proposed trade fits the mold of general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s analytically driven approach, which prioritizes young, affordable talent but recognizes the value of targeted veteran additions when the team is close to contending. Critics may argue that Minnesota isn’t quite there yet after a blowout playoff loss to the Rams, but the Vikings did finish 14-3 last regular season, with all four of their losses (including the playoffs) coming against the Rams and Lions. Adding Ramsey could be the defensive upgrade they need to take the next step.
