Carlos Lagrange, a New York Yankees pitching prospect, is about to turn 22, and his recent performances suggest he could be in for a big year. The right-hander has made four starts for the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades this season. His only poor outing came on April 8 against the Brooklyn Cyclones, where he allowed five runs in just two innings. However, he has bounced back in a big way, pitching 16 2/3 innings in his last three starts, allowing only five runs (2.78 ERA) and striking out 25 batters.
Lagrange’s impressive stretch with the Renegades builds on his solid performance in the 2024 Arizona Fall League, where he posted an ERA just above 2.00 over nearly nine innings. While this is a small sample size, it shows considerable potential. As he continues to improve, moving up to Double-A or even Triple-A may not be far off, especially as the Yankees struggle with inconsistent starting pitching at the Major League level.
Although it’s likely too early to predict Lagrange’s MLB debut (with an ETA of 2027), the Yankees are surely keeping a close eye on his progress. Standing at 6’7”, Lagrange brings an intimidating presence on the mound, with fastballs regularly reaching the triple digits. Signed for just $10,000 in 2022, he made a strong recovery from back inflammation last year and has since shown great potential.
His pitch repertoire includes a fastball in the upper 90s, an 82-85 mph slider, and an upper-80s cutter. According to MLB’s scouting report, Lagrange has one of the widest gaps between ceiling and floor among Yankees pitching prospects—he could either become a frontline starter or a closer, or struggle with command issues that prevent him from reaching the big leagues.
For now, the excitement surrounding Lagrange is building. Time will tell if he can live up to his potential, but watching his development could be well worth the effort for Yankees fans.
