That vision took shape during the NFL Draft with the selection of explosive first-round edge rusher Abdul Carter and powerful third-round defensive tackle Darius Alexander.
The Giants entered the offseason thin on interior defensive line depth, but the addition of Alexander gives them a dynamic presence to pair with All-Pro Dexter Lawrence. Alexander’s potential as a starter is already generating buzz, bringing strength and athleticism that could immediately elevate the unit.
Darius Alexander quickly turned heads with his post-draft comments, confidently stating, “I love taking my opponent’s will and just watching them go to the sideline and not know what to say to the coach.” Toledo assistant coach Vince Kehres echoed the hype in an interview with The New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy, describing Alexander as a “savage” and a rare athlete who combines size and movement ability

In his final two college seasons, Alexander racked up 76 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and eight passes defended over 26 games. His production and physical tools have led many to view him as a perfect fit for New York’s defensive scheme. NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks named him one of the top 10 best team-player fits from the draft, praising GM Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll for finding an ideal complement to Lawrence.
With Alexander anchoring the middle alongside Lawrence, and edge threats like Carter, Brian Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux rushing from the outside, the Giants now boast one of the most physically imposing and potentially dominant defensive lines in the NFL. Expect Big Blue to be a nightmare for opposing offensive lines in 2025.
