Breaking; Former Penn State Star Abdul Carter Chooses Bold Jersey Number with Giants—Fans Are Buzzing!

Abdul Carter’s journey to selecting a jersey number with the New York Giants has had a few bumps along the way. Originally, the talented linebacker-turned-edge rusher wanted to wear No. 56, a number that held special significance for him. However, his plans were halted by the legendary Lawrence Taylor, who made that number iconic during his Hall of Fame career. The Giants retired the number to honor Taylor, and the franchise wasn’t willing to make an exception for Carter.

Carter’s second choice, No. 11 — the number he wore at Penn State and made famous by Giants’ legend LaVar Arrington — was also off-limits. That number, too, was retired in honor of another Giants icon, former quarterback Phil Simms, who wore it throughout his successful career.

After considering his options, Carter decided to go with No. 51 for his professional career. This number, while not as storied as 56 or 11, represents a fresh start for the 2024 NFL Draft’s third overall pick. Carter, who was a standout linebacker for the Penn State Nittany Lions, is now transitioning to the next chapter of his career as he joins the Giants rookie minicamp.

During his final season at Penn State, Carter made a name for himself as one of college football’s most dominant defensive players. He accumulated 68 total tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, nine quarterback hurries, four pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. His ability to disrupt plays and rush the quarterback led to his rapid rise up draft boards, culminating in his selection by the Giants.

Now, as he gears up for his first professional season, Carter’s new jersey number symbolizes a clean slate and a chance to continue his ascent into the NFL spotlight. The excitement surrounding his arrival in New York is palpable, as fans eagerly await his debut on the field and the impact he’ll have on the Giants’ defense.
