MAJOR-NEWS: From Depth Forward to Star: Geekie’s Monster Season Changes Everything for the Bruins As He Just Went from Role Player to Franchise Cornerstone

When the Boston Bruins signed Morgan Geekie as a free agent two summers ago, GM Don Sweeney was gambling on potential—hoping to land a low-cost, high-upside player still waiting for a breakout. Fast forward two years, and that bet has paid off. Geekie has not only broken out, but he’s also now poised for a far larger payday than the modest contract he originally signed.

Originally viewed as a bottom-six forward, Geekie has climbed into a top-six role and turned heads with his rapid progression. Over the past two seasons, he went from pleasant surprise to essential contributor, surpassing expectations from 2023-24 to 2024-25. Following a career-best year, fans and analysts alike are watching closely as his free agency status looms.

After setting personal bests with 17 goals and 22 assists in his first season with Boston, Geekie exploded in 2024-25, scoring 33 goals and 24 assists for a career-high 67 points. He also notched four game-winning goals and averaged nearly 17 minutes of ice time per night over 77 games. Although he was briefly a healthy scratch, he found his stride under interim coach Joe Sacco, becoming one of the league’s most productive scorers down the stretch.

With major roster shake-ups behind them, Geekie was elevated to the top line alongside Elias Lindholm and David Pastrnak, forming a trio that carried much of the Bruins’ offense. Now, the question is whether the team can lock him down long-term and keep that chemistry going into next season.

As the offseason heats up, all eyes are on Don Sweeney once again to strike a deal. Geekie has made it clear he wants to stay in Boston, and the team sees him as a key part of their retooling efforts. Now, it’s just a matter of negotiating the right contract before other teams come calling.
