The New York Yankees have always been known for going after top-tier talent, and while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is off the table this winter, they could make a serious push for Kyle Tucker—the newest big-name player expected to be available. After being traded from the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs, Tucker has continued to impress, with 122 home runs since 2021 and multiple All-Star appearances.
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Yankees are one of several teams that could be “in play” for Tucker. “He’s once again on track to hit near 30 homers and steal 30 bases,” Bowden said. Tucker, a three-time All-Star, Gold Glove winner, and Silver Slugger, could be poised for another strong season as he enters his free-agent year. After Juan Soto’s historic $765 million deal and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s $500 million extension, Tucker is expected to land a nine-figure contract, likely starting with a “6.”
Teams like the Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Yankees, and Los Angeles Dodgers are all expected to be in the mix for the star outfielder. Tucker, who is currently hitting .268/.381/.532 with 11 homers and 34 RBIs in his first 49 games with the Cubs, was on pace for career highs last season before an injury limited him to just 78 games. Adding Tucker to a Yankees lineup already anchored by Aaron Judge would give them another nightly superstar at the plate, while his defensive skills would be a valuable asset for New York.
