MAJOR-BREAKING: Giants Restructure Star’s Contract To Clear Cap Space for Explosive Rookie Signing

Giants Restructure Brian Burns’ Contract to Clear Cap Space for Rookie Deal

The New York Giants have taken a key step to free up salary cap space by restructuring star pass rusher Brian Burns’ contract. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the team converted over $10 million of Burns’ base salary into a signing bonus, providing immediate financial relief.

Before the move, the Giants had only $1.1 million in available cap space and were $9.3 million in the red on effective cap space, per Over The Cap. While the restructuring helps, more cap maneuvering is expected in the coming months.

Burns, who was acquired via trade last offseason, notched 8.5 sacks and 17 tackles for loss in his debut year with New York.

Move Paves Way for Rookie Signing

The main reason for the adjustment? To finalize the contract for first-round pick Abdul Carter, who officially signed his four-year, $45 million fully guaranteed deal on Thursday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Carter, selected No. 3 overall in this year’s NFL Draft, is expected to make an immediate impact. In 2024, he racked up 12.0 sacks and a nation-leading 24.0 tackles for loss, earning recognition as the top defensive talent in the draft class.

Now, the Giants are poised to unleash a fearsome pass-rushing trio featuring Burns, Carter, and Kayvon Thibodeaux—a group with the potential to wreak havoc on opposing offenses this season.
