MAJOR-BREAKING: Giants’ Rookie Running Back Bad News for Trustwrothy Veteran and Could Spell the End for Trusted Veteran Starter

Under GM Joe Schoen, the New York Giants haven’t hesitated to get rookies on the field early, and that trend looks set to continue in 2025. Whether it’s by design or necessity—given the team’s ongoing roster rebuild—young players are being given real opportunities, especially at key positions.

One of the latest examples is fourth-round pick Cam Skattebo, a powerful running back who could quickly carve out a role in the offense. He’s expected to complement second-year standout Tyrone Tracy Jr., who is projected to retain the starting job after an impressive rookie season.

That’s not great news for veteran Devin Singletary.

According to Bleacher Report, Skattebo is among the Day 3 rookies poised to make an immediate impact—potentially pushing Singletary further down the depth chart. Analyst Damian Parson describes Skattebo as a “multifaceted playmaker” who “runs like a hammer hitting a nail,” and whose rugged playing style fits perfectly with the gritty identity of New York.

Singletary signed a $16.5 million deal following a breakout year but struggled in 2024 behind a shaky offensive line. Without elite speed or size, big plays were hard to come by—especially as Tracy began flashing explosive potential that made him hard to bench.

Now, Skattebo’s physicality and versatility give him a clear path to early playing time—particularly in short-yardage and late-game situations. While Singletary brings veteran experience and strong vision, his ceiling may now be as a dependable backup.

“Skattebo should be felt early,” Parson noted, highlighting his perfect stylistic pairing with Tracy’s cut-and-slash running. Together, they could form a dynamic, complementary backfield that defines the Giants’ ground game in 2025.

Unless injuries or an underwhelming rookie campaign shift the outlook, Singletary could be looking at limited touches in what may well be his final season with the Giants.
