The New York Giants are heading into the 2025 season with the same starting offensive line they used last year. While continuity can be a plus, especially if the group can stay healthier than in 2024, the lack of significant upgrades may raise some eyebrows.
There’s still time to make a move—and free agency could offer a solution.
Could Brandon Scherff Be the Missing Piece?
Although the Giants re-signed Greg Van Roten, who held up well at right guard last season, veteran Brandon Scherff would represent a clear upgrade. Scherff’s experience, consistency, and pass protection skills could help solidify a unit that struggled at times last year.
Durability is also on Scherff’s side. The 33-year-old has started all 17 games in each of the past three seasons. In 2024, he posted a solid 64.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, including an impressive 74.5 pass-blocking grade—ranking him 19th among all guards.
Brandon Scherff
Across 1,013 snaps at right guard last year, Scherff didn’t allow a single sack, gave up just 17 pressures, and committed only two penalties. That kind of reliability is rare and valuable—especially for a five-time Pro Bowler and former first-team All-Pro.
Adding Scherff could bring much-needed stability to the Giants’ offensive line and give their younger talents like Marcus Mbow and Evan Neal more time to develop without being rushed into key roles.
Despite his résumé, Scherff remains a free agent, one of the top offensive linemen still available with OTAs fast approaching. If the Giants want to bolster their front and make a real push in 2025, now might be the perfect time to strike.
