New York Yankees All-Star slugger Giancarlo Stanton has yet to appear this season as he continues to recover from tendinitis in both elbows.
Now in the 11th year of his 13-year, \$325 million contract, Stanton is finally showing signs of progress and could be nearing a return. On Sunday, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman shared an update on the 35-year-old during an interview on MLB Network Radio.
“Stanton’s been doing everything,” Cashman said. “He’s finished his base running and has been hitting for a while now using our high-tech batting practice machine, so he’s already getting live at-bats.”
Cashman also hinted at a potential return timeline: “He’s set for live BP over the next two weeks, and I think he’s getting pretty close to starting a rehab assignment after that.”
If all goes according to plan, Stanton would likely spend about a week or more on his rehab stint, putting him on track to return to the Yankees’ lineup in late June.
