The New York Yankees are among the top teams in Major League Baseball and are expected to upgrade their starting rotation before the trade deadline.
One major target on their radar could be Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale, one of the best pitchers in the league. With Sale reportedly a potential trade candidate, here’s a proposed blockbuster deal that would send him to the Bronx.

Yankees receive: Chris Sale
Braves receive: Spencer Jones, Brock Selvidge
This trade would be a high-impact move, with New York landing Sale in exchange for two of their top 10 prospects — including their No. 2 overall prospect.
Sale is earning $22 million this season and has an $18 million club option for 2026. He’d likely slide into the Yankees’ rotation as their No. 3 starter, behind Max Fried and Carlos Rodón, giving them a formidable trio heading into the postseason. This year, Sale has been strong — posting a 4-4 record with a 2.79 ERA over 14 starts. The veteran lefty is a 2024 NL Cy Young winner, an eight-time All-Star, and helped the Red Sox win the World Series in 2018.
Landing a pitcher of Sale’s caliber won’t come cheap. In this proposal, the Yankees would part with Spencer Jones, a power-hitting outfielder and the team’s No. 2 prospect. Jones, a 2022 first-round pick, is currently playing in Double-A and is batting .220 with 10 home runs. He’s expected to make his MLB debut in the near future.
Joining Jones in the deal would be Brock Selvidge, New York’s No. 8 prospect. The left-handed pitcher was a third-round pick in 2021 and is also currently in Double-A. Selvidge has shown consistent development and is viewed as a potential major league contributor as early as this season.
Sale Could Be the Biggest Name on the Trade Block
With the Braves hovering below .500, Chris Sale is emerging as one of the top trade candidates in the league. MLB analyst Chris Rose recently suggested that Sale could be a game-changing asset for contenders desperate for pitching.
“I’ll give you one other name: Chris Sale,” Rose said. “In a market light on starting pitching, he could be the guy that shifts the playoff picture entirely. And I’m not talking about fringe prospects — I’m talking real value in return. Young talent that helps Atlanta stay competitive in the long term.”
Given the demand and Sale’s performance, Atlanta may be tempted to deal him — especially if the return includes high-level talent like the Yankees’ top prospects.
