Despite dropping their fourth consecutive game—a tight 1-0 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Angels—the New York Yankees are already shifting their focus to Tuesday’s matchup. Veteran designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton made his season debut after recovering from injuries in both elbows. Stanton went 2-for-4 with a strikeout in the defeat and spoke candidly about his performance with the media, including a postgame chat with SNY’s Yankees Videos account on X (formerly Twitter).
“It’s good to be out there. I felt like I saw the ball well, except for one at-bat. Just working on timing and getting into a rhythm,” Stanton said.
It was a promising return for Stanton—exactly the kind of contribution the Yankees will need moving forward. The current four-game losing streak is the team’s longest this season. The Angels remain in town for three more games before New York embarks on back-to-back series against the Baltimore Orioles at home and the Cincinnati Reds on the road. The Bronx Bombers have played seven games in seven days and face another nine games in the next nine days. This crucial stretch will test their ability to bounce back.
Stanton is expected to take over most of the designated hitter duties from Ben Rice, who has done a solid job filling in and has secured a spot on the roster. Having Stanton back bolsters the Yankees’ lineup depth, which will be vital in the demanding weeks ahead.

With veteran Paul Goldschmidt enjoying a strong season as well, playing time might be tight at times. Team captain Aaron Judge and other outfielders often rotate into the DH spot on rest days or favorable matchups, giving manager Aaron Boone flexibility. Monday’s performance could be the start of another impactful season for Stanton in the Bronx. If he maintains this form, don’t be surprised to see the Yankees battling deep into the postseason once again.
