The New York Giants are approaching the 2025 season with everything on the line after a disastrous 3-14 finish last year that left them at the bottom of the NFC East. Head coach Brian Daboll—who survived the fallout from the collapse—has been aggressively reshaping the roster, especially the quarterback room, knowing that his job could be on the line unless swift improvement comes.
Despite last year’s failure, Daboll was granted another chance. That decision speaks volumes about the front office’s belief in his process—but it’s also a reminder that in the NFL, second chances are rare—and the pressure to deliver is immense.
With the season opener looming in September, rumors of late-offseason trades are heating up. One familiar name that’s once again at the center of trade whispers is edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. In a June 21 Bleacher Report feature, Kristopher Knox speculates that Thibodeaux could find a new home—perhaps in Green Bay or New England.
Knox suggests that while Thibodeaux, the 2022 first-rounder, hasn’t quite lived up to expectations, a big leap in 2025 might come from a fresh start. “If he’s going to reach double-digit sacks for the second time in his career, he may need a new team,” he writes—especially considering the Giants added Brian Burns last offseason and drafted Abdul Carter third overall this year.
On the numbers front, while the Giants did pick up Thibodeaux’s fifth-year option, moving him could be a clever cap maneuver. His $14.8 million 2026 cap hit could vanish with a trade—an enticing prospect if he’s destined to be only the third option on the edge.
Meanwhile, Russell Wilson is clearly energized by his new surroundings. He’s especially excited about playing with up-and-coming wideout Malik Nabers, praising the Giants’ young core and defensive front. “I came here because of him… we’ve got a really good defense, a lot of guys rushing the passer,” Wilson said at Fanatics Fest.
With Daboll on the hot seat, trade season upon them, and a fresh quarterback at the helm, the Giants are facing a pivotal offseason. Decisions made now—like whether to hold or sell on Thibodeaux—could shape their season trajectory and determine if Daboll keeps his job.
