The New York Giants may have ended the 2024 season at the bottom of the NFC East with a disappointing 3-14 record, but the year wasn’t without its positives.
In fact, the Giants earned high praise in a recent Pro Football Focus article by Zoltán Buday, who ranked every NFL defensive line heading into the 2025 season. Surprisingly to some, New York landed at No. 3 on his list — a testament to how much their defensive front has outperformed expectations.
“Few teams have done more to bolster their defensive line and pass rush in recent years than the Giants,” Buday noted. He highlighted the additions of top draft picks Kayvon Thibodeaux (2022) and Abdul Carter (2025), as well as the blockbuster trade for former first-rounder Brian Burns. This formidable edge trio is anchored by Dexter Lawrence, widely considered one of the top nose tackles in the league.
While the Giants’ offense struggled throughout 2024, the defense consistently delivered. The team finished with 45 sacks — ninth-most in the NFL — and Lawrence was a force up front, tallying nine sacks and countless disruptions that didn’t always show up on the stat sheet.
With a retooled offense heading into 2025, the defense will look to maintain its momentum and help guide the Giants back to the postseason — something they haven’t accomplished since 2022.
