After spending the past three seasons with the New York Giants, outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux could be on the trade block. A recent report suggests the Giants may be open to moving on from the former first-round pick, as he enters the final year of his rookie deal after the 2025 season.
Drafted in 2022 out of Oregon with high expectations thanks to his physical traits as a pass rusher, Thibodeaux’s time in New York has been a mix of promise and inconsistency. Most recently, he endured one of his most disappointing seasons, including a wrist injury that required surgery. Although he returned for a few games, the season ended on a low note.
With the Giants drafting Abdul Carter to bolster their linebacker corps alongside veteran Brian Burns, Thibodeaux may find himself the odd man out. The team may not have much room for him to develop further, especially with Carter likely taking over a starting role and Burns solidifying the unit with experience.
While New York could choose to hold onto Thibodeaux until he hits free agency in 2027, trading him now could net them valuable draft picks and prevent the risk of another injury or an undesired contract extension for a player not projected to start.
Several teams could be interested in Thibodeaux’s upside:
Los Angeles Chargers
Head Coach Jim Harbaugh values tough, physical defenses, but despite the recent signing of Da’Shawn Hand to reinforce the defensive line, the Chargers still need help. They parted ways with Joey Bosa, and also lost key players like Poona Ford and Morgan Fox. Thibodeaux’s versatility could provide a spark opposite Khalil Mack in their pass rush.
Baltimore Ravens
Since 2023, the Ravens’ defense hasn’t quite been the same. With veterans Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh both entering contract years, cap constraints might only allow one of them to stay. Current backups like Trenton Simpson and David Ojabo haven’t shown enough to be long-term solutions. Thibodeaux could be a valuable addition to help the Ravens stay competitive and get more pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
Carolina Panthers
Following two offseasons focused on building an offense around Bryce Young, the Panthers have turned their attention to the defense. With Jadeveon Clowney gone, the team needs a strong replacement. While Josey Jewell and DJ Wonnum are solid, neither can generate consistent pressure on their own. Thibodeaux could give Carolina the edge it needs.
New Orleans Saints
Even without a dominant offense, the Saints can stay competitive by strengthening their defense. After losing Willie Gay, they still have Demario Davis and Pete Werner, but could benefit from upgrading over Carl Granderson. Thibodeaux wouldn’t have to start right away to make an impact and might eventually earn a starting spot in New Orleans’ defensive scheme.
