The Giants are reportedly preparing to part ways with outside linebacker Victor Dimukeje, their 2025 free-agent signing, after a disappointing stint plagued by injuries. Dimukeje was brought in during the offseason with hopes he could bring veteran experience and bolster the team’s edge depth, especially after a solid stretch with the Arizona Cardinals. However, his time with the Giants has been marred by lingering health issues that have kept him off the field for much of the offseason program and early stages of training camp.
The team had initially viewed Dimukeje as a rotational pass rusher who could contribute in sub-packages and provide leadership to a relatively young linebacker room. But with limited availability and few chances to build chemistry with the defense, his spot on the roster has become increasingly vulnerable. The Giants are shifting their focus to younger players who have been able to stay healthy and flash potential during team drills and preseason action.
In a competitive training camp environment, availability is often just as important as ability. With roster spots at a premium, coaches need players who can be counted on day in and day out. Dimukeje’s recurring injury issues have unfortunately made it difficult for him to show what he’s capable of in the Giants’ system. Despite flashes of promise during his time in Arizona, he hasn’t been able to bring that same impact to New York.
The decision to move on from Dimukeje also reflects a broader trend within the organization: building a defense around durability, upside, and scheme fit. With new talent emerging at outside linebacker, including late-round picks and undrafted free agents showing promise, the Giants appear ready to give those players a shot rather than waiting on a veteran who can’t stay on the field. It’s a tough break for Dimukeje, but also a clear signal that the team is prioritizing reliability as they shape the final roster.
While nothing is official yet, league sources indicate that Dimukeje could be among the first wave of roster cuts if his injury status doesn’t improve soon. It’s an unfortunate end to what once looked like a solid depth signing, but in the NFL, availability and timing are everything. For Dimukeje, the hope will be to get healthy and find another opportunity elsewhere—while the Giants move forward with a younger, healthier edge unit.
