Every year, when NFL teams are forced to trim their rosters down to 53 players, a few surprising names end up on the outside looking in. It’s one of the toughest parts of the offseason — not because players didn’t work hard, but simply because of a numbers game. Coaches, fans, and teammates alike often grow attached to these players, making their departure even more difficult.
We root for them not just because of what they bring on the field, but because of their stories, their heart, and their hustle. And even if they don’t make the final cut, it’s a chance for a fresh start — a new chapter to keep the NFL dream alive.
That might be exactly where Tommy DeVito — better known as Tommy Cutlets — finds himself this summer.
Is Time Running Out for Tommy Cutlets in New York?
Though we’re still in the early part of the offseason, preseason is fast approaching, and with it come roster cuts. And unfortunately, DeVito could be one of the more recognizable names let go.
His path to the NFL was anything but glamorous. After an up-and-down college career at Syracuse and Illinois, the New Jersey native went undrafted before signing with the Giants as a free agent. But in 2023, he shocked the football world — going from unknown rookie to starting quarterback and becoming a local sensation in the process.
The legend of Tommy Cutlets was born, bringing energy and excitement to a fanbase that desperately needed it.
But in the NFL, nothing lasts forever.

After appearing in nine games in 2023 — throwing for 1,101 yards and nine touchdowns — DeVito saw significantly less action in 2024, logging just 257 passing yards over three appearances. And now, with the Giants completely overhauling their quarterback room, his future is murkier than ever.
With Russell Wilson, rookie Jaxson Dart, and veteran Jameis Winston all now in the mix, there’s little room for a fourth quarterback on the 53-man roster.
Unless he clears waivers and sticks around on the practice squad, this summer could mark the end of the Tommy Cutlets era in New York — a tough pill to swallow for fans who embraced him as one of their own.
