Breaking-News: Only One Team Can Give The Giants What They Need Most in A Trade Right Now And That Is

It wasn’t long ago that the New York Giants posted a 9-7-1 record and dropped 31 points in a playoff win over the Minnesota Vikings. That was under head coach Brian Daboll, who now finds himself firmly on the hot seat following a disastrous 2024 season. Despite drafting quarterback Jaxson Dart in the first round and signaling a potential rebuild, Daboll knows he can’t afford another year like the last.

But simply rolling with the current roster won’t cut it. The Giants already had to contend with the Eagles and Cowboys in the NFC East. Now, with the Washington Commanders making major strides under new head coach Dan Quinn and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, the division has only gotten tougher. The Giants’ roster clearly lacks the firepower to compete—and that’s where the Green Bay Packers come in.

New York is in dire need of another offensive weapon. While 21-year-old Malik Nabers had a standout rookie year and looks like a legitimate No. 1 receiver, the rest of the group is underwhelming. The team handed a questionable three-year, $36 million extension to Darius Slayton, who managed just 39 catches for 573 yards and two touchdowns in 2024. Wan’Dale Robinson, despite seeing 140 targets, averaged only 5.0 yards per target and posted a dreadful 33.3% success rate. Simply put: the Giants need help at wide receiver.

And the Packers might have just what they’re looking for.

Why the Giants Should Target a Packers Wide Receiver

Beyond Nabers, New York’s receiving corps—Slayton, Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, Lil’Jordan Humphrey, and Zach Pascal—might be the weakest unit in the league. Meanwhile, the Packers are overflowing with receiver talent.

Green Bay recently used a first-round pick on Texas standout Matthew Golden, adding to a deep group that already includes Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and rookie Savion Williams. Even players like Mecole Hardman and Bo Melton may struggle to make the final roster due to the team’s depth.

Reed, coming off two productive seasons with 1,650 yards and 14 touchdowns, is likely untouchable. The same goes for Williams, a recent third-round pick. But others—like Doubs, Watson, or Wicks—could be available in trade discussions.

Romeo Doubs stands out as the most logical target. A physical receiver who excels in contested catches, Doubs has posted over 600 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons and has 15 total touchdowns across three years. Quarterbacks have a 96.8 passer rating when throwing his way. While he doesn’t offer much after the catch, his strong hands and ball-tracking make him a reliable option—something the Giants sorely lack.

Doubs also expressed frustration toward the end of the 2024 season, suggesting a trade might benefit both sides. If Green Bay is reluctant to move Doubs, then Christian Watson or Dontayvion Wicks would still represent solid upgrades for New York.Packers Projected to Trade Romeo Doubs for $72 Million Superstar

Of course, acquiring any of these receivers would come with the need for a new contract—and that’s where things get complicated. The Giants have the second-lowest cap space in the league, and projections show them entering a deep cap deficit in 2026, according to Over the Cap.

Still, the Giants could work around this by backloading a deal or restructuring other veteran contracts. Financial gymnastics will be necessary—but not impossible.

With Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen under immense pressure, they must recognize the urgency. The current offense lacks firepower, and if they want to give Jaxson Dart a chance to develop—and save their own jobs—a trade for a Packers wide receiver might be their best move.
