The South Carolina Gamecocks are set to have another former player make waves in the NFL, as safety Nick Emmanwori has been projected as a first-round pick in the latest mock draft.
South Carolina had a strong 2024 season, finishing with just three losses during the regular season and a solid winning streak to close things out. Although they fell short in their bowl game against Illinois, it was still considered a successful campaign under head coach Shane Beamer.
While the Gamecocks are losing some key players to the NFL this offseason, they also have a promising crop of young talent coming up. Among the veterans leaving, safety Nick Emmanwori stands out. After another stellar season, his on-field performances are now drawing major attention.
In ESPN’s latest first-round NFL mock draft, Mel Kiper Jr. has Emmanwori going 19th overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kiper praised Emmanwori’s rise in the safety rankings, noting that he had even considered him for an earlier pick by the Colts. At 6’3″ and 227 pounds, Emmanwori combines impressive size with the agility of a smaller defensive back. He had a breakout year with four interceptions, including two pick-sixes, and could be a perfect fit alongside Antoine Winfield Jr. in Tampa Bay’s defense.
Emmanwori leaves South Carolina after a remarkable career, totaling 244 tackles, four tackles for loss, and six interceptions. It took him just three years to prove he was ready for the NFL, and his decision to enter the draft is looking like a promising move for his future.
