Though it’s still early in the offseason, that hasn’t stopped analysts from rolling out preseason college football rankings — and the South Carolina Gamecocks are turning heads. With quarterback LaNorris Sellers returning after leading the team to a 9-4 finish last year, expectations are rising.
South Carolina ended last season on a high note, nearly cracking the College Football Playoff conversation despite three regular-season losses. Now, with top talents like Sellers, edge rusher Dylan Stewart, and wide receiver Nyck Harbor, optimism is high.
Joel Klatt recently placed the Gamecocks at No. 11 in his preseason Top 25, behind powerhouses like Texas, LSU, Georgia, and Alabama. While South Carolina faces a challenging SEC schedule, that’s par for the course in the conference.
Sellers is being touted as one of the premier quarterbacks in the country, and under head coach Shane Beamer, the program made major strides in 2024. The goal now is to build on that success and finally earn a first-ever College Football Playoff berth.
