Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik is entering his senior season as a Heisman contender and looking to cement his place in the program’s history. Meanwhile, former Tigers linebacker Barrett Carter is gearing up for the 2025 NFL Draft. In a recent interview, Carter shared an eye-opening story that highlights the work ethic that has driven Klubnik to success—one that Carter had never shared before.
Known for his dedication, Klubnik’s commitment wasn’t just for appearances; it was a daily expectation. Carter recalls a moment during Clemson’s early-season weightlifting sessions last year when he noticed something unusual. While Carter, a senior with no classes left, preferred the 8:30 a.m. session to catch up on sleep, Klubnik had already completed his workout.
“He called me out for it,” Carter laughed. “He asked, ‘Are you really going to the later lift when we’ve all been here early?’”
Klubnik’s relentless dedication didn’t stop there. Carter often saw his truck still in the parking lot, with Klubnik watching film and putting in extra work—living by the mantra of being the first one in and the last one out.
Klubnik’s hard work on and off the field has paid off—over his first three seasons, he has thrown for 7,180 yards and 57 touchdowns. Heading into 2025, he ranks among the top five in nearly every major passing category in Clemson history and is primed for a championship run.
Even as a senior captain, Carter admired Klubnik’s leadership. “He didn’t care who you were—whether you were a senior or captain. He held everyone to a higher standard, and that’s why he had the season he did.”
With Klubnik leading Clemson in 2025, fans can rest assured that his commitment to excellence is genuine and a core part of his leadership.
