BIG-NEWS: Jefferson’s Massive $140 million Contract a Steal After Massive NFL Record-Breaking Extension

Here are a few quick Vikings updates to kick off your St. Patrick’s Day Monday:

Jefferson’s Contract Looking Better Than Ever

On Sunday night, Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase secured a massive four-year, $161 million extension, with $112 million guaranteed. This deal, with an average annual value of $40.25 million, makes Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

This move only highlights how well the Vikings’ extension for Justin Jefferson is shaping up. Last offseason, Jefferson signed a four-year, $140 million deal with $110 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid non-QB at the time. While that record has since been surpassed by Maxx Crosby, Myles Garrett, and now Chase, the deal is still a great one for Minnesota.

With the salary cap increasing each year, Jefferson’s contract is looking more and more favorable. The two-time first-team All-Pro and emerging superstar will continue to be a cornerstone for the Vikings, especially as they transition into the J.J. McCarthy era. At 26, with his prime still ahead of him, paying great players like Jefferson remains a smart strategy for the team.

Also, it’s mind-blowing to consider how great that 2019 LSU squad was. Joe Burrow, Jefferson, Chase, and Derek Stingley Jr. (who just signed his own extension) have now combined for a staggering $666 million in second NFL contracts.

Moore’s Visit to the Bears

Free-agent wide receiver Rondale Moore, who visited the Vikings on Friday, is now in Chicago meeting with the Bears, according to NFL Network. Moore, a former second-round pick from Purdue, may also have other suitors, but he could be deciding between NFC North rivals.

At 5’7”, Moore is an explosive, versatile gadget player who could bring a dynamic new element to the Vikings’ offense. He excels on quick routes and screens, using his speed to make plays after the catch. Moore can even line up in the backfield for handoffs, adding further versatility.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are also hosting former Ohio State cornerback Jeff Okudah on Monday. The team will be keeping an eye on whether they sign Moore and/or Okudah as they continue to build out their depth in the latter stages of free agency.

Additionally, press conferences are expected later this week to officially introduce some of the team’s new signings, including Jonathan Allen, Javon Hargrave, Will Fries, Ryan Kelly, Isaiah Rodgers, and Jordan Mason.
