The New York Jets are set to part ways with Aaron Rodgers after just two seasons, reigniting the offseason drama surrounding the future of the star quarterback. Coming off an ACL injury, Rodgers struggled with a 5-12 record on a Jets team that underwent major changes, including the firing of head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.
While the Jets officially confirmed their decision to move on from Rodgers in a statement on February 13, his next destination remains uncertain. However, former Green Bay Packers teammate and Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones has some insight into Rodgers’ mindset.
Jones believes retirement is not in the cards for Rodgers and instead expects the 41-year-old to seek retribution. Speaking to TMZ Sports on February 14, Jones said he feels Rodgers still has a lot to prove and will return with a chip on his shoulder. “I feel like he’s got a lot left in the tank. He’s going to show people, ‘You made the wrong decision. I’ve got a lot of ball left in me, and we’re going to be good,’” Jones explained.

Where Rodgers will land in 2025 is still up in the air, with any team in need of a quarterback potentially in play, including the Vikings. However, Jones stopped short of commenting on the Vikings’ quarterback situation, as his own future with the team is uncertain.
As one of the top free-agent running backs, Jones is expected to attract significant interest if he isn’t re-signed before free agency begins. “I’ve got to be brought back first,” Jones joked. “I’m a free agent too. I hope to be back, and whoever’s at quarterback, we’ll be ready to lead them.”
Jones also expressed confidence in both Sam Darnold and rookie J.J. McCarthy, noting that the team is well-equipped to succeed with either under center. The Vikings and Jones recently agreed to extend a void date in his contract, which would have resulted in a $3.2 million dead cap hit by February 17, signaling both sides are open to negotiating a new deal.
