Jesse Chavez is making his return to the Atlanta Braves organization for the second time this season, as the 41-year-old right-handed reliever has re-signed on a minor league deal, according to the team’s official transaction page. Chavez originally elected free agency after being designated for assignment following his season debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Chavez first joined the Braves late in Spring Training after being released by the Texas Rangers. Although he didn’t make the Opening Day roster, the Braves added him to the 26-man roster when reliever Hector Neris was designated for assignment after struggling in two rough outings with the team.

The veteran reliever, who is in his 18th MLB season, made his debut for the Braves this year on March 31, pitching two innings against the Dodgers. Unfortunately, Chavez allowed a home run in his outing, leading the Braves to designate him for assignment shortly after in order to add Zach Thompson as a fresh arm in the bullpen.
Chavez has been a familiar face for the Braves since 2021, appearing with the team every season since then. Last year, he made a significant contribution, pitching in 46 games for Atlanta and providing valuable experience to the bullpen.
Debuting in the majors in 2008, Chavez first pitched for Atlanta in 2010 and has now returned to the organization for another stint, hoping to continue his long and distinguished career with the Braves.
