BREAHING: Davante Adams Breaks Silence On Hamstríng Injury – “It Was Worse Than You Think’
Davante Adams has been sidelined since the Week 3 matchup against the Carolina Panthers on September 22 due to a hamstring injury. On October 15, he was traded from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets in a major deal. Shortly after the trade was announced, Adams appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” to provide an update.
“First off, thanks for asking about the injury. I’m feeling great, man. I’ve been working with the staff in Vegas the whole time, and they got me back on track. Fortunately, I’ll be able to play,” Adams said.
Some social media users raised doubts about the legitimacy of his injury, suggesting that Adams might have been using it as an excuse to stay off the field until the trade was finalized. Those doubts may resurface now that Adams appears to be fully healthy after joining the Jets.
As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Adams plans to make his debut for the Jets on Sunday night against the Steelers after missing three games with the hamstring issue. The Jets will face the Steelers in Pittsburgh during Week 7. Head coach Mike Tomlin humorously noted, “I was getting ready for last week. Now I’m preparing for him this week.”
Adams arrived in the New Jersey area on October 14, anticipating the trade’s completion. Aaron Rodgers shared on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he learned of the trade just after midnight, with the news breaking to the public around 10 AM ET.
As part of the trade, Adams restructured his contract, with Schefter indicating that his new cap hit for the 2024 season is $3.21 million. The Jets added two void years to spread the financial implications into later years. This arrangement essentially allows for an 11-game rental for Adams, with discussions about his long-term future set for after the season.
Jets owner Woody Johnson emphasized his commitment to winning this season, stating he is doing “absolutely everything” possible. He fully absorbed Adams’ 2024 contract in the deal. While Adams is set to earn $36.25 million in 2025 and 2026, none of that money is guaranteed.
Both parties have opted to focus on this season before addressing future plans. Adams, 31, will turn 32 at the end of December. The potential return of Rodgers in 2025 could significantly impact Adams’ decision to stay with the Jets.
The Jets currently sit at 2-4 following a tough loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 6. When asked if the season is still salvageable, Johnson replied, “Salvageable? We’re going to kick… you can fill in the blank.”
