March has arrived, and the NFL Combine is in full swing, signaling the start of a busy offseason. Free agency is just around the corner, followed by the NFL Draft, which will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin. While the Buffalo Bills are expected to be somewhat active in free agency, they still face financial constraints that could limit their spending. However, general manager Brandon Beane has a knack for making savvy moves when least expected, so fans shouldn’t rule out a surprise signing or two.
As the draft approaches, mock drafts will flood the internet, offering various scenarios for the Bills’ first-round pick at No. 30. Beane has a mixed track record with first-round selections. While Josh Allen and Greg Rousseau have been home runs, other picks haven’t panned out as hoped. Tight end Dalton Kincaid, drafted just two years ago, still has time to prove his worth, but the pressure is on for Beane to nail this year’s selection.
In a recent CBS Sports mock draft by Kyle Stackpole, the Bills landed a potential steal at No. 30: Georgia safety Malaki Starks. Widely regarded as the best safety in this year’s class, Starks is unlikely to fall out of the top 20, let alone to the end of the first round. However, if he were available, the Bills would have an easy decision to make. Despite having Taylor Rapp and Cole Bishop under contract for the next two seasons, Starks’ talent would be too good to pass up.
Starks was a standout at Georgia, recording a career-high 77 tackles in 2024 and totaling six interceptions and 17 pass deflections over three seasons. His ball-hawking skills and playmaking ability make him a rare prospect at the safety position. While it’s unlikely he’ll still be on the board at No. 30, stranger things have happened on draft night. For the Bills, landing Starks would be a dream scenario and a major boost to their secondary.
