Earlier this week, I floated a hypothetical trade between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves that could give Atlanta the spark they need to rebound from a rough start to the season. The proposed deal would send former top prospects James Outman and Bobby Miller to the Braves in exchange for a strong prospect package. Here’s the full trade proposal:
Braves receive: OF James Outman, RHP Bobby Miller
Dodgers receive: RHP Owen Murphy, RHP Garrett Baumann, SS Jose Perdomo
This deal would be a bold move for the Braves, who would be betting on the untapped potential of two former top prospects struggling to find consistent roles in L.A. Miller, once considered a key piece in the Dodgers’ future rotation, now finds himself buried behind at least eight other arms in the organization. Moving him wouldn’t be a huge loss for a team as deep as the Dodgers.
Outman finds himself in a similar situation, squeezed out of a crowded outfield. Despite limited playing time, both he and Miller could step into more impactful roles with Atlanta immediately.
On the Dodgers’ end, the return would be substantial. Owen Murphy is a promising right-hander with top-of-the-rotation upside, already excelling early in his minor league career. Garrett Baumann, another standout pitching prospect, has also shown dominance and could make his way to the majors within the next couple of seasons.
Jose Perdomo, a raw but high-upside infielder, hasn’t played above rookie ball yet, but his natural talent is clear. If the Dodgers feel good about their major league roster and want to restock their farm system, this kind of trade could make a lot of sense. And for the Braves, adding two MLB-ready talents like Outman and Miller could be the jolt they need.
