BREAKING; Braves Rocked by Injury Surprises and Roster Shake-Up Ahead of Key Stretch

AJ Smith-Shawver (RHP)

Injury: Bruised right forearm

Update: After taking a 105 mph line drive to the forearm in Colorado on April 30, Smith-Shawver played catch on May 3. Manager Brian Snitker said he’s still on track to make his next start on May 5.

Spencer Strider (RHP)

Injury: Strained right hamstring

Update: Placed on the IL retroactive to April 18, Strider has been cleared to throw lightly but hasn’t pitched off a mound yet. The team is being cautious, especially since the injury came shortly after his return from elbow surgery. A mid-to-late May return is possible.

Ronald Acuña Jr. (RF)

Injury: Torn ACL (left knee)

Update: Acuña is still working on strengthening his quad muscles and hasn’t started a rehab assignment yet. A return in early May seems unlikely, but he could be back by late May if progress continues.

Nacho Alvarez Jr. (INF)

Injury: Left wrist inflammation

Update: Started the season on the 10-day IL, but was moved to the 60-day IL on April 23. He remains in Florida rehabbing. A May return is still possible.

Reynaldo López (RHP)

Injury: Right shoulder inflammation

Update: Underwent arthroscopic surgery on April 8, which revealed no structural damage. He’s been shut down for 12 weeks and will be re-evaluated afterward. There’s still hope he could return sometime this season.

Joe Jiménez (RHP)

Injury: Left knee surgery

Update: Sidelined after surgery to repair major cartilage damage. He won’t return before August, and missing the entire 2025 season is still a possibility.
