The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Pitt standout cornerback A.J. Woods to a reserve/future contract following their Super Bowl victory. Woods, who initially joined the Washington Commanders for training camp, was waived before being claimed by the Eagles. He spent the remainder of the 2024 season on their practice squad, awaiting his opportunity.
A native of Germantown, Maryland, Woods made a name for himself as a key contributor to the Pittsburgh Panthers’ defense over a five-year collegiate career. Known for his exceptional athleticism, Woods showcased his impressive speed by running a 4.35-second 40-yard dash at Pitt’s pro day, a time that would have ranked fifth among cornerbacks at the NFL Combine had he been invited. During his time at Pitt, he registered four interceptions, 25 passes defended, 105 total tackles, and eight tackles for loss.

At just 23 years old, Woods is eager to leverage his physical tools and college experience to earn a spot on an NFL roster. Despite being placed on the Eagles’ practice squad as a rookie, he has yet to make his NFL debut, but the 2025 season could present the opportunity he’s been working toward. With the Eagles, Woods will aim to prove that his blend of speed and defensive skills can translate into success at the professional level.
