During the scrimmage, Tristen Keys had the chance to watch his friend and fellow Mississippi native, Deuce Knight, take some snaps. “It was fun seeing my boy out there,” Keys said. “I hope it works out like that in the future. He can really sling the ball.”
Keys also shared his strong bond with the true freshman Knight. “We have a good connection. We’ve played together before, and it went really well. It turned out great for both of us. Seeing him here is even better. He’s added some weight, and I know he can really throw it. We don’t talk football much, but he’ll drop some sly comments now and then.”
Knight played a part in Keys’ decision to visit, but so did wide receivers coach Marcus Davis and head coach Hugh Freeze. “I wanted to come down to connect with those guys, build relationships, and get a feel for things to see where I fit in,” Keys explained. “Coach Davis is young and full of energy. He talks life, not just football, which I really appreciate. That’s the type of coach I want.”
As for Auburn’s chances of flipping the LSU commit, Keys said, “LSU produces the best, which is why I committed, but Auburn still has a shot.”
Although he’s committed to LSU, Keys is planning official visits to Auburn, LSU, Miami, Tennessee, Alabama, and Texas A&M. “I’m still exploring my options in case something changes,” he noted.
Keys made his first return to Auburn’s campus since January for the Saturday scrimmage. “It was smooth,” he said. “I got to chill with some of the guys. It was fun. It made me think about whether I could see myself in the locker room here in the future if things were to change.”
