The New York Giants have struggled significantly over the past two seasons, with their 3-14 record in 2024 marking one of the worst in team history. That poor performance earned them the third overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. Despite this low point, the Giants have made some encouraging moves during free agency that suggest a more promising direction for the team.
Giants Rank 20th in PFF’s Pre-Draft Power Rankings
Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus recently released his pre-draft power rankings for the 2025 NFL season, placing the Giants at No. 20 — a notable improvement from where they stood earlier in the offseason.
“While the Giants are drafting third overall, Joe Schoen’s moves in free agency have positioned the team to be more competitive, with a higher floor than before,” Locker wrote.
The Giants have indeed taken steps to bolster their roster, particularly at quarterback by signing veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Still, questions remain about the overall talent level. Star wide receiver Malik Nabers stands out, but the rest of the offense lacks dynamic playmakers. On defense, standout pass-rushers Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns lead the way, though an additional elite player would further strengthen the unit.

The No. 3 overall pick in the draft could bring that needed star power. The Giants have the opportunity to select a top-tier talent such as Penn State’s Abdul Carter or Colorado’s two-way standout Travis Hunter, either of whom could make an immediate impact.
However, bypassing a quarterback with the third pick might affect their long-term future, as it would mean not securing a young successor to Wilson or Winston. Still, adding a game-changing player could enhance their chances of winning in 2025.
The pressure is now squarely on general manager Joe Schoen to nail this draft and continue improving the roster. Head coach Brian Daboll will also be under the spotlight to deliver results. With jobs on the line, 2025 is shaping up to be a make-or-break season for the Giants’ leadership.
