With the New York Yankees still addressing a few crucial gaps in their lineup, an MLB analyst has proposed a daring trade that would see the team part with their top prospect, Jasson Dominguez. Although the Yankees didn’t land Juan Soto in the bidding war with the Mets, they’ve been extremely active this offseason, making some significant moves that have strengthened their roster.
Notable acquisitions include All-Star pitcher Max Fried, whom they signed to the most lucrative deal ever given to a left-handed pitcher, along with a trade for ace closer Devin Williams. They also added two former NL MVPs in Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. Despite these improvements, GM Brian Cashman is still looking to address remaining holes in the team, particularly at third base and left field.
Earlier this week, MLB Network analyst and former Yankee Cameron Maybin suggested a bold trade idea to address the Yankees’ left field dilemma. Maybin proposed sending Dominguez to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for Steven Kwan, a Gold Glove-winning outfielder and leadoff hitter. Kwan, who had a stellar 2024 season, would fill the Yankees’ need for a reliable leadoff batter while solidifying their defense in left field.

Dominguez, however, remains the Yankees’ top prospect and has shown flashes of potential at the MLB level, despite struggling with injuries and limited playing time last season. While the Yankees have high hopes for Dominguez, Kwan, a proven and consistent contributor, could offer immediate value for a team with championship aspirations.
Though Dominguez has the potential to become a future star, Kwan’s established track record may be too valuable for a Yankees team aiming to compete at the highest level right now. This trade could be a win-now move for the Yankees, but it would also mean parting with their top prospect in favor of a more immediate solution.
