J.J. McCarthy is quickly becoming the quarterback the Minnesota Vikings can rely on as they embark on a new chapter in their franchise’s history. After experiencing a series of ups and downs at the quarterback position, the team seems to have found stability with the young signal-caller, who now has everything in place to succeed. The only thing left for McCarthy is to prove he has the work ethic necessary to achieve success, and based on recent reports, he’s already passing that test.
In a recent column by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, he highlighted McCarthy’s impressive commitment during the offseason. Breer spoke with Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, who shared that McCarthy has been in the facility nearly every day since the season ended, following their wild-card loss to the Rams. According to O’Connell, McCarthy is in top shape, with his weight almost identical to where it was when the Vikings worked him out in Ann Arbor last spring. He’s moving well and has been consistently throwing multiple days a week. If his performance faltered at any point last fall, McCarthy has done what’s necessary during the offseason to get back on track.
This level of work ethic is priceless. While McCarthy’s natural talent is certainly important, it’s his dedication and drive that will ultimately set him apart as he progresses in his NFL career.
