Last year, the Kansas City Royals struck gold with some of their starting pitcher signings, but they’ll need similar success in 2025 to compete in the AL Central. Alongside their young breakout hitters, the Royals are banking on sleeper picks like Jonathan India to step up and deliver.
India, acquired by Kansas City, has a golden opportunity to become the team’s leadoff hitter, batting in front of star Bobby Witt Jr. The Royals also plan to give him playing time in the outfield, increasing his chances of staying in the lineup regularly. However, the move to a less hitter-friendly ballpark could dampen his power numbers.
India is a steady player with upside, especially if he logs over 500 at-bats. While his lack of walks hurts his leadoff potential, his speed and improved swing path make him a valuable asset. If he hits lower in the lineup, a .270 season with 75 runs, 15 home runs, 65 RBIs, and 40+ steals is within reach. Batting leadoff with 550 at-bats could push his runs scored over 90.
For fantasy managers, India offers value at second base with breakout potential, making him a better fit there than at third base in 5×5 Roto formats. The Royals are betting on India to help spark their offense and provide a much-needed boost in 2025.
