BREAKING: Justin Turner Joins Chicago Cubs on 1-Year, $6M Deal—What It Means for Their Infield!

MESA, Ariz. — The Chicago Cubs have reached an agreement with veteran corner infielder Justin Turner on a one-year, $6 million contract, sources confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday. The deal is pending a physical.

Turner, 40, spent the 2024 season splitting time between the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners, posting a .354 on-base percentage in 139 games. He batted .259 with 11 home runs, continuing to showcase his consistent offensive production. Over his 16-year MLB career, Turner has maintained an impressive .821 OPS.

The Cubs have been seeking a reliable backup for Michael Busch at first base, as well as a player who can occasionally fill in at third base. Turner fits both roles, though he’s unlikely to see much time at third base after making just six appearances there last season.

Turner’s veteran presence and proven bat add valuable depth to the Cubs’ lineup as they look to bolster their infield options for the upcoming season.
