The Lakers’ search for a big man has been ongoing since Davis’ departure. They nearly secured Charlotte Hornets’ Mark Williams at the trade deadline, but the deal fell through after Williams failed his physical. This left Los Angeles with a glaring hole in their interior defense, a problem they’ll need to solve this offseason.
Kessler, a 7-foot-2 center known for his shot-blocking and rebounding prowess, could be the perfect fit. This season, the Auburn product is averaging 11.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting an impressive 72.5% from the field. Despite his individual success, the Jazz are struggling with a 15-53 record, and with Utah in rebuilding mode, they might be willing to part with Kessler for the right offer. Enter Austin Reaves—a reliable playmaker and shooter whose role could diminish with Doncic now leading the backcourt. Trading Reaves for a defensive-minded center like Kessler could be a strategic move for the Lakers.
