The Miami Dolphins bolstered their tight end room on Friday by signing veteran Pharaoh Brown, as first reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Brown, known for his versatility as both a blocker and receiver, brings seven years of NFL experience to Miami.
Brown entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon in 2017, starting his career with the Oakland Raiders. He later spent time with the Cleveland Browns (2018-2019), Houston Texans (2020-2022), and returned to Cleveland after being claimed off waivers during the 2022 season. In 2023, he joined the Indianapolis Colts for training camp before signing with the New England Patriots for the regular season. Most recently, Brown played for the Seattle Seahawks in 2024.
Over his career, Brown has appeared in 87 games with 54 starts, recording 72 receptions for 751 yards and three touchdowns. However, his 2024 season with the Seahawks was underwhelming. As Mookie Alexander of *Field Gulls* noted, Brown primarily served as a blocking tight end but struggled with penalties and limited production as a receiver. He caught just eight passes for 65 yards, committed five penalties (including four holding calls), and lost a fumble on a designed screen pass.
The Dolphins are betting that 2024 was simply a down year for Brown and that he can return to being a reliable contributor. Miami will look to maximize his blocking skills while hoping he can provide occasional support in the passing game.
