BREAKING: Nation’s No. 2 Cornerback Kenton Dopson III Chooses Miami Over Powerhouse Programs!

The Miami Hurricanes often face stiff competition when it comes to keeping local talent home, as countless programs aim to recruit from South Florida’s rich football pipeline. However, on Thursday, Miami scored a major win by securing an early commitment from Kenton Dopson III, the nation’s second-ranked cornerback.

Dopson, a standout at Miami Norland High School, chose the Hurricanes over Syracuse, Florida State, Georgia, and Louisville. “I was born into it,” Dopson said. “It doesn’t get any better than this. Hometown team. Right here, where I grew up. They treat me like I’m already home.”

The talented cornerback visited Miami for its first spring practice and came away impressed by the intensity and competitiveness under defensive back coaches Will Harris and Zac Etheridge. “Practice was great; the intensity was there. The intensity level was different. They were at each other’s necks. They were competing at a high level,” Dopson said.

Development is a top priority for Dopson, and he believes Miami’s coaching staff can help him reach his full potential. “They keep a hundred with me. They keep it real, and I feel like they will develop me,” he added.

Dopson plans to return to Miami for its spring game, further solidifying his connection to the program. During his sophomore season, he showcased his skills with 16 total tackles (12 solo), three interceptions, 16 passes defended, and a sack.

This commitment is a significant win for the Hurricanes, as they continue to build their 2026 recruiting class with one of the nation’s top defensive talents.
