As NFL teams continue to reshape their rosters following last week’s draft, the Las Vegas Raiders have made another move.
On Thursday, the Raiders announced the signing of free agent wide receiver Collin Johnson, formerly of the New York Giants. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Johnson signed a four-year, $3.6 million contract but was released after just one season. He was claimed off waivers by the Giants in September 2021.
During his first year in New York, Johnson played in 12 games, starting once. He caught 11 passes for 105 yards on 21 targets, though he didn’t find the end zone. The following year, he suffered a torn Achilles during the offseason, sidelining him for the entire 2022 season. After being waived by the Giants, Johnson landed on the Chicago Bears’ practice squad.
Over his NFL career, Johnson has appeared in 38 games with three starts, tallying 31 receptions for 394 yards and two touchdowns, along with six special teams tackles.
He now enters a packed Raiders receiver room, which includes names like Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, Kyle Phillips, and several others. This signing comes amid a wave of change in Las Vegas, with Tom Brady stepping in as a minority owner, Pete Carroll taking the reins as head coach, and Geno Smith arriving via trade from Seattle to be the new starting quarterback.
