Braves Part Ways With Former All-Star Orlando Arcia, Who Signs With Rockies
The Atlanta Braves have decided to move on from infielder Orlando Arcia, releasing the former All-Star on May 25, 2025, after a string of underwhelming performances. Arcia had a tough stretch leading up to his release, batting just .194 with one run, six hits, and a single RBI across 31 at-bats. He has struggled to recapture the form he showed during his standout 2023 season and was also a member of the Braves’ 2021 World Series-winning roster.
Arcia’s 2023 campaign was the highlight of his time in Atlanta, where he hit .264 with 129 hits, 65 RBIs, and 17 home runs. However, his production dipped sharply in 2024, hitting only .218, and continued to decline this year.
Arcia Signs with Colorado Following Braves Exit
Despite his recent struggles, Arcia quickly found a new opportunity. He signed a major league deal with the Colorado Rockies, reportedly choosing them over minor league offers from the Yankees and Mets, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Orlando Arcia and the Rockies are now in agreement on an MLB deal,” Heyman wrote on X. “Yankees and Mets both offered Arcia minor league opportunities before he got the MLB deal with Rockies.”
Following his release, Arcia took to Instagram on May 27 to thank the Braves organization and its fans.
“I want to take a moment to say thank you to the Braves organization, my teammates, the staff, and especially the fans,” Arcia wrote. “Wearing this jersey and representing this city has been one of the greatest honors of my career… Atlanta will always have a special place in my heart.”
Braves’ Struggles Continue Beyond Arcia
Atlanta’s decision comes amid broader team issues. The Braves have underperformed so far in 2025, sitting at 25-28 through their first 53 games. Manager Brian Snitker had previously expressed support for Arcia, dismissing concerns over his spring training stats and pointing to the team’s success with him as their shortstop.
“I know I looked, he’s been our starting shortstop and we’ve won 193 games, I think, the last two years, so that’s pretty good,” Snitker said back in March.
However, Arcia wasn’t able to turn things around. Now with a new opportunity in Colorado, he’ll look to revive his career. As for the Braves, their struggles extend beyond one player, and the team may need to make more moves ahead of the July 31 MLB trade deadline.
