The Braves turned in another solid pitching performance but once again couldn’t generate any offense, falling 4-0 to the Angels.
Grant Holmes was outstanding through six innings, striking out 10 and generating an impressive 27 swings and misses on 106 pitches. Despite some trouble in the fourth and fifth innings—when the Angels loaded the bases and later had runners on the corners—Holmes escaped both situations unscathed. This marks his tenth consecutive start allowing three runs or fewer, lowering his season ERA to 3.47 and continuing to be one of the few positives for Atlanta this year.
Offensively, the Braves were flat once more. They couldn’t capitalize against veteran left-hander Tyler Anderson. Michael Harris led off the fifth with a triple that went to waste, and Atlanta also stranded two runners in scoring position in the first inning when Drake Baldwin struck out. Outside of those chances, the Braves rarely threatened.
In the eighth, Dylan Lee gave up two doubles and a walk to open the scoring. Enyel De Los Santos followed and promptly surrendered a two-run double to Jorge Soler, putting the game out of reach.
The series resumes Wednesday, with Didier Fuentes making his third career start. He’ll go up against Yusei Kikuchi, who enters with a stellar 2.79 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET. Expectations remain modest.
