Breaking-News: Bruins Get Major Charlie McAvoy Injury Update Amid Dwindling Playoff Hopes

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has been sidelined since February 15 due to a serious AC joint shoulder injury he sustained during the USA-Canada round-robin match at the 4 Nations Face-Off. The injury led to an infection, which required a hospital stay overnight. McAvoy’s last game for the Bruins was on February 8, and since his absence, the team has seen a sharp decline in the standings and has effectively given up on their current roster.

The Bruins traded key players like Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers, Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Trent Frederic to the Edmonton Oilers, Justin Brazeau to the Minnesota Wild, and Charlie Coyle to the Colorado Avalanche. With just eight games remaining in the regular season, the Bruins now find themselves eight points out of the final playoff spot.

However, McAvoy is not ready to give up on the season just yet. On Monday, the eight-year NHL veteran participated in practice, wearing a full-contact jersey. While it’s uncertain when he’ll return to the lineup, McAvoy could be back as soon as Tuesday when the Bruins host the Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals at TD Garden.

The team is hoping to end their eight-game losing streak in this crucial matchup, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m. ET. This season, McAvoy has appeared in 50 games, recording seven goals and seven assists. Over his career, the 27-year-old has accumulated 60 goals and 245 assists, surpassing the 300-point milestone.
