Notre Dame football is on a recruiting tear unlike anything fans have seen in years. Head coach Marcus Freeman and his staff have been so successful on the trail that it’s sparked plenty of speculation about what’s driving the momentum.
Speaking with local media on Thursday, Freeman offered his own take—and it’s no surprise he credits much of the surge to the team’s strong on-field performance in 2024.
Freeman Believes 2024 Playoff Run Sparked Recruiting Surge
“I think young people are drawn to those College Football Playoff games,” Freeman explained. “Before our run, some recruits just weren’t paying attention to Notre Dame football.”
He pointed out that the success helped the Irish gain traction in regions typically dominated by SEC programs.
Exactly,” Freeman said when asked if that visibility helped land talent from SEC-heavy areas. “Now the brand and the faces are recognizable. Recruits are at least open to hearing about what we offer. That’s the first step.”
“The real challenge,” he added, “is getting them to believe in everything Notre Dame football can provide.”
With expectations high for another playoff appearance in 2025, the Fighting Irish could be positioned for continued recruiting dominance in the years ahead.
