The New York Giants have officially announced the hiring of former NFL safety and Super Bowl champion Usama Young as their new Vice President of Player Engagement. Young, who played eight seasons in the NFL and was part of the New Orleans Saints’ Super Bowl XLIV-winning team, brings a wealth of on-field experience and off-field leadership to the Giants organization. His transition from player to mentor has been marked by a deep commitment to supporting athletes in all aspects of their professional and personal development.
Since 2017, Young has worked in the NFL’s Player Engagement office, where he played a key role in helping players and their families navigate life during and after football. His work has focused on continuing education, financial literacy, mental wellness, and career transition programs.
He was especially involved in supporting rookies, guiding them through the often overwhelming process of adjusting to life in the NFL—both physically and mentally. His approach has consistently emphasized the importance of building a foundation for long-term success beyond the game.
As Vice President of Player Engagement, Young will lead efforts to create a comprehensive support system for Giants players. This includes developing initiatives tailored to career planning, financial management, emotional health, and family support. With a unique blend of firsthand playing experience and a proven track record in player development, Young is expected to make an immediate impact on the team’s culture and provide critical resources to athletes navigating the demands of professional football.
“Usama brings incredible experience to our organization,” said Giants General Manager Joe Schoen. “His background as both a player and a mentor gives him a deep understanding of what our athletes go through, on and off the field. He will be a great resource for our players and an important part of the Giants family moving forward.”
