Breaking-News; From the Gamecocks to the Buccaneers: Former South Carolina QB Seth Strickland Lands Major Role as Offensive Coordinator at Charleston Southern – What This Means for the Program!

Former South Carolina quarterback Seth Strickland has been named the new offensive coordinator at Charleston Southern, the school announced on Sunday. Strickland joins the Lowcountry program after spending the past two years as offensive coordinator at Division II Anderson University under Bobby Lamb.

Strickland played for Steve Spurrier at South Carolina from 2009 to 2012, mostly contributing on the scout team early on, but later became a regular in the lineup from 2010 to 2012, also serving as the team’s placeholder. In his senior year of 2012, he completed 4 of 6 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.

A Laurens native, Strickland began his coaching career at South Carolina, working under both Steve Spurrier and Will Muschamp in a variety of positions over six seasons, including as interim tight ends coach for the 2018 Outback Bowl.

He also spent time with Spurrier in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football, serving as quarterbacks coach for the Orlando Apollos. Charleston Southern head coach Gabe Giardina highlighted Strickland’s experience under Spurrier, saying it would play a key role in shaping the Buccaneers’ offensive strategy for the 2024 season.

Strickland also held a position as offensive coordinator at IMG Academy and was quarterbacks coach, recruiting coordinator, and pass game coordinator at Albany State alongside Giardina during the 2021 season. Charleston Southern faced struggles in 2023, finishing with a 1-11 record after a 4-7 mark in Giardina’s first year as head coach. The Buccaneers did manage a notable victory in 2024, defeating the ranked Furman team in the second week of the season.
