Breaking-News: Giants Face New Competition for Popular WR Target Amid Jalin Hyatt Hype

Giants’ Interest in Gabe Davis May Fade as Jalin Hyatt Impresses at OTAs

The New York Giants have been linked to free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis as a potential veteran addition, possibly to push 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt. However, a new suitor has emerged for Davis as of June 3.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Davis is set to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers this Thursday. The Steelers are reportedly seeking receiving help but are not expected to trade for Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith, despite making inquiries.

Meanwhile, Jalin Hyatt has been turning heads at Giants OTAs, possibly making Davis unnecessary. During the June 2 episode of “Big Blue Kickoff Live,” hosts John Schmeelk and Paul Dottino praised Hyatt’s strong performance. Schmeelk recapped a standout play where Russell Wilson hit Hyatt deep on a post route that ended in a leaping, high-pointed grab — the highlight of practice.

Dottino emphasized how often Hyatt has been targeted this spring, noting that the young receiver has made the most of increased reps with Malik Nabers sidelined and Darius Slayton missing time.

Physically, Hyatt also seems to have taken a step forward. Both Schmeelk and Dottino observed that he appears to have added muscle mass in his upper and lower body — a welcome development after concerns about his slim build coming out of college.

SNY’s Connor Hughes echoed the optimism, recently reporting that Hyatt is “in a much better headspace” compared to his rookie year and highlighting his elite, unteachable speed.

With 2025 shaping up to be a make-or-break year for Hyatt, signing Davis might only complicate his development. If the Steelers land Davis, it could be a win-win — giving the Giants clarity while avoiding the financial strain of another veteran contract.
